Economic stagnation has affected not just Saria, but the entire Sarvarian region significantly for the past 15 years or more – but this week, the country’s ruling Aristocratic Party claims the country has turned a corner – returning to pre-2007 levels of economic growth for the first time<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Vastava – Saria, Sarvaria<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The usually opaque ruling Aristocratic Party in Saria broke a habit of a lifetime earlier this week with some of its most senior figures taking part in a public press conference. Hailing the end of an \u2018era of stagnation\u2019, party apparatchiks exclaimed the country\u2019s economy had turned a corner and that its vast manufacturing power was back operating at what they termed as \u201cfull capacity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hit heavily by financial contractions that have gripped the global economic environment since 2007, the last 15 or so years has seen the country slump from one of the most productive in the world, to one of the least – kept afloat only by its vast production and sale of energy. The result has been a drastic fall in living standards for most, and a country increasingly turning inwards away from regional and global partners. Foreign investment dried up in the early part of the 2010s, and despite attempts to revive its exports outside of its stable energy industry, Saria became baron in terms of economic activity and growth, consistently undercut by global competitors alongside an increase amongst Gallian nations in particular to drive production in response to demand into domestic markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This set of circumstances is however hardly unique to Saria itself. Most of the Gallian continent which it neighbours has experienced a similar impact to economic contraction, but what makes this situation unique is the dominance of Saria\u2019s economy within the wider Sarvarian region. The scale of the country\u2019s industrial might has long supported smaller local developing economies including neighbouring Greater Saravia – which remains a largely parochial and underdeveloped state – as well as the breakaway regions of Stara-Tereng and Trans-Nineveh, as well as into Karakhstan, Kashtan and other Greconian nations more broadly, particularly through the funneling of second tier production. The collapse in economic output from Saria\u2019s Drava and Vakia regions in particular has therefore had a major impact on the fortunes of these further economies. Ones that are already much poorer and exposed to the harsh realities of economic crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement therefore by Sarian officials is welcome news to a region heavily indebted and in desperate need of change. Millions have left Sarvaria, becoming economic migrants in search of jobs in other territories, while many others have become a significant burden on already stretched states. The possibility of greater exports in manufactured goods as well as raw materials as consumption increases globally, is being met with jubilation. Although, several officials within these states have cast doubt over the reliability of the figures released, given that, in essence, they are fully controlled and conveniently helpful to an Aristocratic Party which is continuing to face challenges to its authority domestically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Essentially saved only by the strength of its Iak oil exports, internally, Saria has seen increased domestic terrorism targeting a regime that has left many hundreds of thousands to fend for themselves, and offered absolutely no political leadership – both domestically and regionally. A regional summit to be hosted next weekend in its northern industrial city of Vastava, where this article is being drafted from, however will present the country an opportunity to lay out more details about its supposed recovery. The Aristocrats sense the need to try and calm regional and global fears, as competitors try to lure business and manufacturing away from the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it can continue to move in the direction of transparency, and offer clarity to a region which yearns for a return to its glory days, may well seal the fate not just of the Aristocratic Party but also of Saria itself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
